Steve has worked in the motion picture and television production industry for over 38 years. Starting as a camera operator and editor, and having been fortunate enough to work with some of the top DP’s and gaffers in the business, Steve quickly found that lighting and top of the line cameras were a key to the success of an image for his clients. So in 1989, he began putting together his own lighting packages to use in his contracted productions. In 1995 with a partner, Morgan Atkinson, he began purchasing camera packages. From these acquisitions, Kentucky Grip and Lighting has grown from a lighting package in a van to the multi-truck, multi-camera rental operation it is today.

In December of 2008, Cabin Hill Communications, Inc., the parent corporation of Kentucky Grip and Lighting moved into Studio One Kentucky, now re-branded as The Studios at Production Commons, another addition to the production infrastructure for the State of Kentucky and a natural complement to the thriving grip and lighting business that Steve and his wife, Nikki have been building.

Nikki Staley

Nikki has worked in media since 1983. She has covered all aspects of media sales and production; print, radio, and television with employment with Lipps-National Printing, WRKA Radio, and WDRB-TV (Fox 41). In 1998, Nikki struck out on her own with Nikki Staley Advertising, a successful agency that has retained the clients to this day that she started with 11 years ago. At that time Cabin Hill Communications, Inc. was formed to cover Steve and Nikki’s enterprises.

Also, from her roots in producing for the television and radio companies, she applied the production and organizational skills she had acquired there to become the go-to producer for many of the larger Kentucky Grip and Lighting projects with producer’s credits ranging from numerous network shows to national/regional commercials and music videos for multinational record labels.
